Is it safe to travel to Denpasar Bali under the current circumstances?
Bali, one of the most popular tourist spots and the most popular in Indonesia, has been off-limits for tourism for most of 2020. Although Christmas is the most favored time for a visit to this part, the ongoing pandemic has completely altered the normalcy. Not only is Bali closed for the last few months, but it’s also opening to tourists is still not on the cards, at least for the next 2 weeks.
The Indonesian Government had prepared for the reopening of this popular island with conditional access should the number of covid cases come down. But the emergence of a new strain of the virus has put a stop to those plans. The initial plan was to allow tourists who could procure a covid negative certificate to be allowed on the island. But the latest decision of barring international travelers is sure to affect those decisions.
With the increasing number of active cases, the Indonesian government has taken a few cautionary measures. As per the latest decisions:
- The foreign travelers must submit the covid negative certificate to be allowed inside the country
- Go into institutional quarantine for 5 days
- Then again undergo covid tests to travel inside the country
- The certificate must be taken within 48 hrs for the passengers coming from Europe and Australia while the others must have it within 3 days of departure to Indonesia
But domestic travelers can still visit the island to enjoy their holidays or weekends. The conditions include doing a PCR test or undergoing an antigen test upon arriving on the island. The latter option is only for those who do not have the facility for the PCR test. Children under the age of 12 need not do the PCR test and a covid negative certificate is not mandatory for them.
